Beaded Playing Cards, is the twelfth book in the Beadflowers Beading Patterns series. It offers you the complete collection of Peyote stitch tutorials for making a deck of playing cards. So, this includes all four suits plus two different designs for Jokers. You are going to be working with size 11 Delica beads to make these projects. Each playing card is stitched in even count Peyote, which is a beautifully simple technique to learn, even if you are new to bead-weaving. So, that makes this volume ideal for all levels of experience. I have given you both pattern (picture) charts and word charts for each playing card design. So, you can check your work against the pictures and use the word charts to tell you exactly which beads to add in order. This really couldn’t be simpler! If you are brand new to beading, you might wish to supplement this book with the second volume in the series, which teaches you basic beading techniques. In this book I have assumed you already know how to work in even count Peyote. As you explore my work in the Beadflowers Beading Patterns series, you will recognise that I have quite an imagination. So, I thought it might be fun to play my favourite card games with a set of beaded playing cards. These are slightly larger in size than standard playing cards, and definitely thicker. However, I discovered that you can shuffle these cards. You may wish to do this a few at a time, rather than attempting an entire deck, though! And when you have completed your deck, you could consider beading a box to keep them in. I haven’t created a tutorial for this part, but you can find plenty of inspiration for beaded boxes in the later volumes in this book series. Finally, comes the big decision…what games will you play first?Katie Dean followed a career in the beading industry for over 12 years. During that time, she designed and published over 500 patterns, more than 10 books, and taught numerous beading classes, both in-person and online. She also worked as editor of Bead and Jewellery Magazine for 3 years, ran her own business, Beadflowers, and appeared on the Craft Channel and Jewellery Maker TV. She reached the finals and won multiple international beading competitions, participated several times in Battle of the Beadsmith, and had her designs published in just about every major beading magazine across the world (back when beading magazines existed!). The information and projects shared in this book series, Beadflowers Beading Patterns, represent the legacy of Katie's beading experience and designs. May they support you in growing your skills and bring you much joy as you explore the wonderful world of beading! Read more
