Welcome! Thank you for your interest in this all original, antique Victorian, necklace. The chain is approx 12 inches long. The chain detaches from the main piece by depressing a small tab and pulling it out. The piece is quite ornate and has seven (7) deep blue, cut glass embellishments. I don't see any manufacturer markings anywhere on the piece. A magnet doesn't stick to either the chain or main piece. I don't believe the back detaches from the main piece to insert something of value or picture inside. It is in its original state, as obtained. It could use a cleaning but I'll leave that to the new owners discretion.
